Dipped Products leads Dell Mountain project: “EcoPulse Cloud Forest Restoration”

 In a landmark move for environmental conservation, Dipped Products PLC (DPL), in partnership with Horana Plantations PLC (HPL), has launched the EcoPulse Cloud Forest Restoration Project, Sri Lanka’s first large-scale private-sector-led ecological restoration initiative above 6,000 feet.The launch, held recently in Nuwara Eliya and Lindula, marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to protect the country’s threatened montane ecosystems. The project forms a key part of DPL’s ESG Roadmap 2030, which sets out its long-term sustainability commitments. Located on Dell Mountain within the Bambarakelle Estate in Lindula, the EcoPulse Cloud Forest Restoration Project spans 40 hectares (100 acres) in the Central Highlands. The initiative focuses on montane forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, and community awareness.

 

Building on a legacy of regeneration

The project follows the success of the EcoPulse Nature Reserve, launched earlier this year in Hanwella. Together, the two initiatives represent DPL’s expanding focus on biodiversity conservation, aligned with the Hayleys Group’s broader sustainability vision.

Dipped Products PLC Managing Director Pushpika Janadheera reaffirmed the company’s deep-rooted environmental commitment.

“Sustainability is deeply rooted in who we are because we are genuinely passionate about the environment. There is no sustainability in business if we don’t protect the environment. We invest for the long term because we want to see real results,” he said. He also noted that 94% of the company’s energy consumption now comes from renewable sources, reflecting its wider efforts to reduce its environmental footprint.

A science-led approach

 

The launch featured the presentation of a Biodiversity Assessment Report following a rapid ecological survey of Dell Mountain. The study recorded over 130 species of vertebrates and butterflies, including 32 endemic and 29 nationally threatened species, highlighting the importance of conserving these fragile highland habitats.

 

An educational session and short documentary, “EcoPulse Cloud Forest: Feel the Pulse, Touch the Clouds” focused on ecological restoration, invasive species management, and community participation.

A panel discussion under the theme, “Leading with Purpose – Redefining Environmental Stewardship in Sri Lankan Businesses” brought together Pushpika Janadheera (DPL), Johann Rodrigo (HPL), and Environment Ministry Dr. Manoj Prasanna Guruge. The session was moderated by Hayleys Group Head of ESG Prashani Illangasekera.

A journey beyond 6,000 feet

Participants later joined a guided hike to the Dell Mountain restoration site, witnessing the biodiversity the project aims to protect. A trilingual awareness board was unveiled, highlighting the ecological significance of the area, followed by a symbolic tree-planting ceremony marking the official beginning of the restoration effort.
