Alumex PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys and a trailblazing aluminium manufacturer in Sri Lanka, has inked an MoU with the Department of Technical Education & Training (DTET), to create opportunities for the youth, by equipping them with the expertise to be certified as world-class, skilled fabrication craftsmen. To address the industry’s ever-evolving challenges, Alumex PLC and DTET will establish a state-of-the-art model Training Centre at the Maradana Technical College and look to extend this effort across key cities, establishing multiple world-class training facilities in the island. This ground-breaking initiative will empower students with a fully updated curriculum and cutting-edge fabrication techniques, to elevate the industry’s fabrication standards. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on applications, Alumex and DTET are priming the next generation of fabricators for success in the modern landscape.
The Department of Technical Education & Training acknowledged that the partnership with Alumex PLC will help enhance skills within the fabrication sector and help elevate industry standards. The DTET look forward to expanding their training centres across the island and are confident that by equipping the youth with the training and knowledge they need, that they are providing them with a chance to strengthen the workforce as valuable contributors to the nation’s economic growth. Mr. Pramuk Dediwala, Managing Director of Alumex PLC said, “At Alumex, we are committed to supporting the development of the aluminium fabrication industry. Through this comprehensive training programme, we will not only equip the younger generation of fabricators with the right technical knowledge, skills, and tools to thrive, but will instil within them the spirit of innovation.”
He added, “This MoU is our united effort to create a paradigm shift in fabrication education, cultivating an environment where the youth can not only acquire knowledge but also prosper economically. Through this undertaking, we are nurturing the potential for societal progress, empowering individuals to enrich their livelihoods both in Sri Lanka and through opportunities to work overseas.”
For over 25 years, Alumex has been dedicated to the development and empowerment of local fabricators since the inception of its Aluminium Fabrication Training Centre in 1998 at Sapugaskanda. Over 20,000 fabricator technicians have successfully graduated and are now fully trained and proficient to meet the evolving needs of a vibrant construction industry.
